Q:
What is the Black Jack webdoujin anthology?
A: "Black Jack webdoujin anthology"
is an online collection of submitted
fanworks from Black Jack fans. Free
for all to read! Whilst there are doujinshis
which compile works of different artists
and circles, these doujinshis are mostly
sold only in print.
Since we don't own Black Jack or any
of Tezuka Osamu's characters, it is
only fair to show this fanwork for free,
right? We don't want to capitalize on
someone else's work and characters.
^^;
Anyone can contribute; from just one
mere piece of artwork to a full 20 page
comic! It's entirely up to you!
Q: Who is the founder?
A: Mai (aka maiyeng), 20 something year
old graphic designer and runner up in
"The Rising Star of Manga UK &
Ireland Edition volume 2". I've
been a fan of Black Jack since I was
first introduced to the Cantonese dubbed
version of the OVAs in the summer of
2001/2. In 2007, I've made one online
Black Jack fan doujinshi called "ROOTS",
focused on the relationship between
Black Jack and his childhood friend,
Makube Rokuro.
Q: Why do this?
A: Better now than never. XD Actually
I had this idea on and off my mind for
the past year or so since I finished
my first Black Jack doujinshi and I
really wanted to create some kind of
colab doujinshi with artists who also
share the same fondness for Black Jack.
Late last year I decided to finally
act on it as Froth-Bite was about to
finish fansubbing the Black Jack TV
series and Vertical are still translating
the Black Jack manga, so why not strike
while the iron is hot? =) It's something
that I like to do with the community
and this will be a first try. It will
also introduce us to all fellow Black
Jack fans & artists! ^^
Q: I want to make a comic of Black
Jack, but of his appearance in …
(other Tezuka's work). Is that okay?
A: Yes, that is totally fine! Black
Jack's other cameos in Tezuka's manga
and anime like "Astro Boy",
"Marine Express", "Bandar
Book" and "Midnight"
are perfectly fine. ^^
Q: My comic features Pinoko only,
is that okay?
A: Yes! You can make it not feature
Black Jack at all, so long as the character
exists in the Black Jack universe and
is strongly recognizable as apart of
the Black Jack universe (ie Pinoko,
Kiriko, Honma, etc). If you are unsure
don't hesitate to e-mail me: maiyeng♠yahoo.com
(replace ♠ with @).
Q: Can I send in a comic/4Koma that
I already made?
A: Sorry, but I can only accept newly
created comics/4Komas. Early artwork
however, I can accept, but I will only
accept 1 old artwork per artist.
Q: I don't have a program that helps
me resize my art or adds text to my
artwork! Help!
A: Here are a couple of free programs
that you can download to help you edit
images:
- Photoscape
- Great for adding speech bubbles with
text.
- PhotoFiltre
- Adding text & resizing images.
Q: Can you help me add text/resize
my pictures?
A: I'm quite a busy person and would
prefer it that you not request me to
help fix your images. Try asking someone
who is willing to help and has time
to help you, or you can check the links
above! ^^
Q: I want to include ... coupling
A: It would be best to avoid non-canon
coupling as we don't want some readers
to be upset. Canon couplings are acceptable
within the Black Jack or Tezuka universe.
So for example: Black Jack & Megumi.
But if you really want to have chemistry
between characters, then please do this
subtly so it can be seen as a friendly
gesture). Since this is also the first
time I have ever tried working on an
online community art project and I like
to keep things fairly clean for now.
If things go well, then we maybe more
flexible in the next anthology. If you
really want to include some kind of
shonen ai/shoujo coupling then please
do this in a very subtle way (that it
can be easily brushed off as a "normal"
act or friendly/intimate gesture.)
Q: I need reference pictures on how
to draw ... (character). Where do I
go?
A: You can checkout TezukainEnglish,
Tezuka
Osamu.net, or just google up
the character's image. =)
Q: Can I send you pages of the comic
as I work on it?
A: No. I will only accept complete comics
as there is no guarantee on whether
or not you will complete it. Also, it
will be much easier to track complete
work. However, if you want to send me
pages just to check on whether or not
the submission will be acceptable, then
by all means send it to me. ^^ Remember
to subject your e-mail "Black
Jack webdoujin sample".
Q: Can I send you a complete comic/4Koma,
but send you a screentoned/grey shaded
version later?
A: No. It must be complete. If you intend
it to be screentoned then please send
it to me once you have completely screentoned
your work. You can send me a none screentoned/shaded
version just fine, if you intend it
to be like that.
Q: I can't finish my comic/4Koma/artwork
on time! Is it okay if I send it in
just a little bit later than the deadline?
A: I prefer that all art be sent in
by 31st October 2010 before midnight
(GMT). But I can only accept work if
it is really close to completion and
handed in the very next day (1st November).
Any later than that, I will not accept.
However, hold on to it. If this anthology
goes well then by all means send that
in to the next one! =)
Q: Can I add any artist comments
or a page to add any personal comments
about what I drew?
A: You can do so, but only if you have
contributed a 10+ page comic. An artist
comment page will be adds as 1 comic
page, so if you have already done 20
pages of a comic then you cannot add
a personal artists comment page. You
can add some artwork to pad out the
page, so as not to waste white space.
Here
is an example of an artist comment page.
Please don't use the artist comment
page to send any abusive message/imagery,
advertise brands/products/services,
include private information, hate messages/imagery,
e-mail address/es or web-address/es.
(So don’t include a web URL/e-mail as
seen on the example!)
Q: Is it ok for me to send everything
in a zip file all at once?
A: Sure! ^^
Q: Is it okay for me to send you
a zip file of my 4Koma, then later send
you a zip file of my complete comic.
A: Sure! ^^
Q: So all the submission sent to
you will not be seen until the site
opening?
A: Yes. I will hold on to all the images
until the site finally opens in the
29th of November 2010.
Q: Can I submit fanfiction?
A: No, we do not accept fanfiction submissions.
Q:
Can you link to my site in your links
section?
A: I want to specifically link to Tezuka
and Black Jack related sites and communities
in the link section only. If you own
such site, then e-mail me with the e-mail
subject titled "Black Jack webdoujin
link".
Q:
I want to contibute! Can you add me
to the list of artists?
A: I will only add you to the list of
artists once I received your submission.
I cannot add you if you say you are
going to send me a submission.
Q: So there will be another Black
Jack webdoujin anthology?
A: This will depend on how well this
one goes. I can't guarantee that I will
do another one. But we shall see. |
